5m of Nitinol Fishing Wire
This is an excellent wire for end traces, stingers and uptraces.
It is a dead straight memory wire with a black oxide finish. Highly resistant to kinking and tangling. The superelastic property allows 5–10% elongation under sudden or extreme load, then returns to its original length without damage, giving a useful cushioning effect to connections and knots. It will not corrode and most sizes can be knotted or crimped.
Important: Single strand is smooth with not much grip for crimps so should be triple passed on smaller sizes to prevent slippage.
Note: Single strand wire is not suitable for multiple hook attachments like a standard double treble hooked deadbait trace. Please choose a multi strand wire for multiple hook trace building.
Recommended crimp & sleeve sizes
6lb / 2.7kg – 0.21mm
• 0.6mm single sleeve crimps (triple-pass method)
12lb / 5kg – 0.26mm
• 0.6mm single sleeve crimps
24lb / 10kg – 0.35mm
• 0.8mm single sleeve crimps
40lb / 18kg – 0.43mm
• 1.0mm single sleeve or 0.8mm double barrelled crimps
Tip: After forming the loop, briefly waft a lighter under it until the wire relaxes (do not let it go red). This releases tension in the material.
66lb / 30kg – 0.56mm
• 1.2mm double barrelled crimps
Tip: After forming the loop, briefly waft a lighter under it until the wire relaxes (do not let it go red). This releases tension in the material.
100lb / 45kg – 0.70mm
• Not suitable for knotting
• 1.2mm double barrelled crimps (recommended 2 each end)
Tip: After forming the loop, briefly waft a lighter under it until the wire relaxes (do not let it go red). This releases tension in the material.
